hybrid Mongolian Beef / stir fry

This is my hybrid version... but it is **good stuff**.. ;-).

2 cloves garlic, minced
one package stir fry seasoning mix
8 tablespoons soy sauce
3 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 pound beef round steak,roast or such, cut into thin strips
3/4 cup water
1 can water chestnuts, drained
1/2 teaspoon white sugar
1 can cut baby corn, drained
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
3 carrots, thinly sliced
1 bunch green onions, cut into 2 inch slices, white parts separated
 Directions   
1 In a mixing bowl, combine garlic, 4 tablespoon of soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch.  Mix thoroughly. Stir in beef strips. Let stand for at least 10 minutes.
2 In a separate small bowl, combine water, remaining soy sauce, remaining cornstarch, sugar, one package stir fry seasoning mix. Mix thoroughly; set aside.
3 Heat oil in a wok or skillet over high heat. Add beef and brown.  Add veggies and white part of green onions. Sauté for 3 minutes. Add green parts of green onions and sauté for 1 minutes. Stir in soy sauce mixture. Cover and cook sauce boils.  Uncover, cook and stir until sauce thickens.
